Le Labo: Creation of a Fine Scent

April 20, 2019

I had just finished some work at a nearby café when I walked in front of what used to be an old building, a European Hotel on the corner of Carrall in Gastown, Vancouver. I caught sight of a name I remembered; Le Labo was a spot I had seen back when I went to Paris, however, it wasn’t that name which had my full attention. What mainly captivated my eyes was the rich visual aesthetic of an interior design shop, situated inside an old French-style establishment.

So I decided to have a quick peak.

Le Labo is a French name, but translates to The Laboratory, and it was founded and created in the great city of New York. The brand itself is, above all a balance of meticulous and delicate ingredients picked and prepared in a way that creates each individual fragrances.

Their manifesto explains the intimacy between the creation of their personalized products and their soulful scents. They deemed that it is essential that everything is meticulously hand-pick, hand-formulated and hand shook. And, so it is from these intentions with which their aromas are created, and equally so with this attention to detail with which it is prepared. Their 17 fragrances were are intricately designed; a gentle composure combination of a luxury luxurious, natural and familiar essence.
The joy also dwells in their cutting-edge and creative formulation process that makes the brand even more lovely and remarkable. Once you get a whiff of all of their exclusive bottles and you have selected your favourite scent, your fragrance is then freshly prepared on the spot within their in-house lab.

What I love about this brand the most is the choices that you have to make your preferred formula. It means a great deal to know that people do not only choose the perfect perfume for their skin, since this has become a common thought in our daily lives. To me, knowing this brand does not mistreat, or test their products on animals creates an imminent joy in my heart. Now, having looked deeper into some the hundreds of cosmetic companies out there, and knowing that they still heavily rely on animal testing to experiment their products is something we should, at least, be aware of, including myself.

Le Labo, which was originally founded by Eddie Roschi and Fabrice Penot, was acquired by Estée Lauder in 2014. The unisex brand has since extended their line into skin care products, grooming essentials, as well as candles and accessories.

After spending almost an hour in the store looking at their products, taking pictures (of course) and talking to the saleslady about their product line, I can assure you that each and every bottle is tailor made and priceless.

If you have some free time I would recommend you stop by and have a look. You might even find your new Homme/Femme Fatale perfume or your next gift. On sait jamais!
